University Council
The University Council is considered the body supervising its administrative, scientific, educational and scientific research affairs. The Council has the right to take all means that ensure the performance of the university’s mission, and the powers of the University Council are defined in the university’s statute.
The University Council handles scientific, administrative, and financial affairs, and implements the general policy of the University. The Scientific Council is responsible for the following:
1. Adoption of the training plan.
2. Suggesting the establishment of colleges, institutes, departments, research centers, and support deanships, and suggesting amending their names, merging them or canceling them.
3. Approval of scientific majors and postgraduate programs.
4. Granting academic degrees to university graduates.
5. Determining the details of the academic calendar in accordance with the general framework for the beginning and end of the study, and determining the holidays that are interspersed.
6. Seconding faculty members, delegating them, sending them for scientific missions, granting them a sabbatical leave, and terminating their services according to the rules regulating that.
7. Approval of curricula, study plans, prescribed books and references based on the proposal of the councils of specialized colleges and institutes.
8. Approving the internal regulations of the university, which does not entail financial or job advantages.
9. Suggesting or amending university regulations.
10. Discussing the annual report in preparation for its presentation to the Education Council.
11. Determining the amounts allocated to each college, institute, support deanship, and independent research center for spending within the limits of the financial regulation.
12. Deciding on the appointment of faculty members based on the recommendation of the Scientific Council
13. Laying down the rules regulating visiting students or those transferred from and to the university.
14- The Scientific Council supervises the university’s committees and departments directly and indirectly, and approves the results of graduate studies. It also supervises the Academic Advisory Committee, which is a committee emanating from the Scientific Council that approves the interim results of the faculties, and also supervises the Promotions Committee, which is a committee that works on Promotion of university faculty members who meet the promotion requirements
15. Approval of curricula and study plans submitted by colleges, institutes and centers.
16. Approval of examination results.
17. Granting academic licenses, awards and honorary degrees.
18. Encouraging scientific research, writing and publishing.
19. Approval of external examiners who are nominated by the colleges.
20. Approval of the scientific regulations and regulations of student activity, behavior and accountability.
21. Determining the number of students admitted annually to the university and distributing them to colleges and institutes in accordance with the established plans and short-term programs of the university.
22. Recommending to the Board of Trustees the establishment and organization of new colleges, institutes, centers, departments and study programs.
23. Suggesting admission requirements for colleges, schools, institutes and centers in accordance with the council’s regulations.
24. Recommend to the Board of Trustees the terms of appointment and promotion for faculty members.
25. Any other scientific specializations.
The council meets at the invitation of its president at least once a month, and the president may call the council to a meeting if the need arises, and he has to call it if a third of the members submit a written request to it. The council meets to discuss the issues of the university and students in order to elevate the university work to the highest ranks.
